Ranu Kumbolo lake ringed by pine forest and morning mist
Duration
4 days 3 nights
Difficulty

Departure

Semeru is the highest mountain in Java and the climb is a serious one, but the payoff matches: two lakes, a meadow the size of a football field, and a summit at 3,676 meters above sea level. Our trip starts at Ranu Pani, overnights at Ranu Kumbolo, then pushes to Kalimati before the summit attack before dawn on the last day.

We only open slots when the mountain status is safe and the season is right, with a guide ratio of one to six climbers. Porters and climbing gear can be rented through us, so you do not need to carry everything from the city yourself.

Highlights

  • Ranu Kumbolo and sunrise at the lake rim
  • Oro-oro Ombo, the wide meadow below Mahameru
  • The Mahameru summit, the highest point in Java
  • Periodic ash plumes rising from the crater

Includes

  • Malang to Ranu Pani return transport
  • Tickets and the SIMAKSI permit
  • Guides at a 1:6 ratio
  • Tents, sleeping pads, and cooking supplies
  • Optional porters at a separate cost

Difficulty: Hard, needs preparation. June to August, the most stable window.
